5. Monsters Of Folk is one of those "super" bands brought together every couple of years that gets everyone all excited with the promise of a "super" collection of tunes.
4. The band consists of Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes, and M. Ward from... M. Ward.
3. Similar to other bands created by self-indulgent singers and musicians, the album doesn't sound like a band playing, but much more like a collection of dudes all trying to get themselves heard.
2. Sadly, the songs themselves are seemingly well written and, perhaps with a strong producer in place, this could have been something better than blah on a scale of blah.
1. This record will likely be followed by about 10 years of questions on whether they will get Monsters Of Folk together to do it again.
